In 1994, the United States, Mexico and Canada, with the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), created the world`s largest free trade region, which generated economic growth and helped improve the living standards of the people of the three member countries. By strengthening trade and investment rules, this agreement has proven to be a solid foundation for building Canada`s prosperity and has provided a valuable example of the benefits of trade liberalization for the rest of the world. The new Canada-U.S.-Mexico agreement will strengthen Canada`s strong economic ties with the United States and Mexico. The provisions of the Convention cover a wide range of agricultural products, homelessness, industrial products, working conditions and digital commerce. Among the most important aspects of the agreement are improving U.S. dairy farmers` access to the Canadian market, guidelines for a greater proportion of automobiles produced in the three countries and not imported from other countries, and maintaining the dispute settlement system, which is similar to that contained in NAFTA. [35] [38] The Trump administration office proposed the USMCA citing new digital trade measures, strengthening the protection of trade secrets and adapting the rules of origin of the automobile as some of the benefits of the trade agreement. [112] The USMCA will have an impact on the way Member States negotiate future free trade agreements. Section 32.10 requires USMCA countries to notify USMCA members three months in advance if they plan to enter into free trade negotiations with non-market economies.

Article 32.10 authorizes USMCA countries to review new free trade agreements. It is generally speculated that Article 32.10 targets China. [56] In fact, a senior White House official said of the USMCA agreement: „We were very concerned about China`s efforts to undermine the U.S. position by reaching agreements with others.” [57] This agreement is the result of a renegotiation between member states of the North American Free Trade Agreement between 2017 and 2018, which formally approved the terms of the new agreement on 30 September 2018 and 1 October. [10] The USMCA was proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump and signed on November 30, 2018 by Trump, Mexican President Enrique Pea Nieto and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as a secondary event of the 2018 G20 summit in Buenos Aires.
